Middle and high school teachers learn important lessons
Registration opens for BioHealth Link: Questions of Cancer
OWINGS MILLS, MD: Teachers (grades 6 - 12) are invited to register
for one of Maryland Public Television's (MPT) premier professional development
institutes, BioHealth Link: Questions of Cancer. The summer institute,
presented in cooperation with The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public
Health, will be held July 22 - 25, 2002, at The Johns Hopkins Medical
Campus.
BioHealth Link introduces educators of all content areas to cutting-edge
research about cancer, its causes, prevention and treatment. Working with
mentor teachers, participants learn how to integrate the subject of cancer
into numerous curriculum areas using a variety of educational technology
tools such as Internet resources, computer software, educational videos
and multimedia presentations. Participants further sharpen their technology
skills by attending Internet and computer software workshops, led by experienced
teacher-presenters.
Seminars, tours, lab visits, and lunches with Johns Hopkins doctors and
scientists involved in environmental health research and cancer research
and treatment provide an inside look of this critically important topic.
Participants also receive books, posters, videos and a CD-ROM containing
interdisciplinary cancer topic lesson plans integrated with technology
and aligned with the Maryland State Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP)
outcomes and core learning goals.
The registration fee is $70. Additional information and registration materials
can be found at www.mpt.org.
BioHealth Link: Questions of Cancer is generously supported by
The Johns Hopkins Center in Urban Environmental Health, The Johns Hopkins
Oncology Center, The Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Foundation, Inc.
and The Seraph Foundation Inc.
Maryland Public Television is a not-for-profit, state-licensed public
television station which serves the citizens and communities of Maryland
and beyond through a variety of broadcast and nonbroadcast activities.
