MPT. This is bigger than television
Maryland Public Television debuts new arts series
ArtWorks This Week to feature Maryland's artists and organizations
OWINGS MILLS, MD: Maryland Public Television (MPT) today announced
that it has begun production of a new weekly arts series. Hosted by Rhea
Feikin and Nate Howard, ArtWorks This Week combines the best of
talk and magazine style shows, incorporating artist and celebrity interviews
with pre-produced stories featuring arts, culture, and history from throughout
Maryland. ArtWorks This Week will air Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning
February 14.
"This new series provides MPT an opportunity to further fulfill its
mission to the community," says Ken Day, executive producer, "by
bringing the arts to Marylanders and Marylanders to arts. The cultural
enrichment of society is an important goal. ArtWorks This Week
will make Maryland's genuine artistic treasures visible and accessible
to all and accessible now."
Each week, the 30-minute program will feature a variety of art, history
and entertainment activities, encouraging viewers to seek out and experience
Maryland's wonderful and diverse culture for themselves. It may be a soaring
opera in Baltimore, an historical re-enactment in Hagerstown, or the exquisite
perfection of a decoy carving on the Eastern Shore. In addition to the
weekly broadcast, ArtWorks This Week will have regular features
on mpt.org/artworks.
Funding is provided by The William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund and The
Baltimore Community Foundation. The program is part of a broader effort,
MPT ArtWorks, which has received generous support in the past from
several organizations, including the Charles Delmar Foundation, SECU Credit
Union, and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.
Adele Rush is project director of the MPT ArtWorks initiative.
Producer of ArtWorks This Week is Ken Day; contributing producers
are Kelli Green and Nate Howard. Online producer is Michael Hughes.
