MPT. This is bigger than television.

Maryland Public Television scores a direct hit with Direct Connection
Viewers get chance to interview national, regional and local guests

OWINGS MILLS, MD: On October 1, 2001, viewers get the chance to play anchor and ask the questions they've always wanted to ask of celebrities, entertainers, and authors when Maryland Public Television (MPT) premieres Direct Connection with Jeff Salkin.
Broadcast live, Monday through Friday from the digital studios of Maryland Public Television, Direct Connection with Jeff Salkin is a different type of local public affairs program with its focus on personalities from all arenas. Whether conversational or confrontational, Salkin, known for his thorough investigative style, will do what it takes to get in-depth answers to the questions viewers want asked. Viewers can join in by asking their question directly to the guest via phone call-ins and e-mails. Following the interview, viewers get a chance to join in a discussion with experts or reporters who are covering stories in the mid-Atlantic region.
Direct Connection will also give viewers a chance to be on camera via live interviews from the field by Yolanda Vazquez. Reporting from locations across Maryland, Vazquez will talk with Marylanders, getting their views and opinions about what's happening in their communities as well as registering their answers to the nightly Direct Connection poll question.
Direct Connection with Jeff Salkin is the cornerstone of MPT's new daily and public affairs programming block, called MPT NewsWorks, also premiering on October 1, 2001. Direct Connection will lead the MPT NewsWorks block at 6:00 pm, followed by The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer at 6:30 pm and Nightly Business Report at 7:30 pm.

Direct Connection and MPT NewsWorks will be featured elements of MPT's newly redesigned Web site, www.mpt.org, which also launches on October 1. Look for a whole new interactive experience. Set your browser to www.mpt.org this month and
