Josh Lefkowitz
appearing in Now What? at CENTERSTAGE
Josh Lefkowitz returns to CENTERSTAGE in Baltimore with his new show Now What? His comic timing and relentless skewering of his personal obsessions are classic, and hilarious. The Baltimore Sun has said "his metaphors are chosen with a painter's eye, and individual sentences are as rhythmic as a line of music." Now What? runs at CENTERSTAGE through January 20th.

Marcell and the Truth
"Soul, Blues, Jazz and a Dash of Funk"
Whether they're performing at a local book festival or getting national notoriety for their nomination on Soultracks' website contestant poll for Best New Soul Artists, it looks like Marcell and the Truth are here to take those that are interested in real music played by real musicians on a journey. Spotted at the Baltimore Book Festival, I was enamored by the way that they took command of the stage and just made the crowd sway and feel what they had to say. Whether it's about relationships, religion or just plain old feelings, Marcell and the Truth brought the emotions to the surface with their live stage performance. Their music seems to be a mixture of soul, blues, jazz and a dash of funk. This 10+ member band has all the right sounds and moves and Marcell Russell, the lead singer, simply has a phenomenally huge voice. Originals songs are mostly composed by Marcell and the core squad: William (Bags) Bagwell, Charles (C.J) Bennett, and Gerald (Fingas) Richardson. They're all captured on their new cd, Hopes Too High and it's available online at cdbaby.com/cd/marcelltruth.
If you would like to see Marcell and the Truth, and you really should see them perform live, they have upcoming performances on Feb. 15th, 7:30pm at the 13th Annual Black Heritage Festival in the Baltimore Convention Center and Feb. 28th, starting at 9:00pm at the Eden Lounge in Baltimore. For more information, check out their website.
