A Special Tribute

to Baltimore TV Pioneer Jim McKay

Jim McKay (Sun photo by Karl Merton Ferron / May 12, 1995) Jim McKay died recently of natural causes at the age of 86. Mr. McKay started in print journalism at the Evening Sun and moved into television at WMAR. He was the legendary Host of ABC’s Wide World of Sports for 40 years. His "...thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat" introduction for that program has passed into American pop culture. He is best known his television coverage of twelve Olympic Games, and for his reporting on the Munich Massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics.

On December 31, 2003, ArtWorks This Week interviewed Mr. McKay about his career and life here in Baltimore. In tribute, we are re-broadcasting the interview in its entirety.
