ISBN: 0-07-561326-3
Package Cost: $88.25
The 16 readers in this series feature controlled vocabulary lists developed by combining high-frequency American English vocabulary with high frequency vocabulary from the video series. In addition, grammar structures are controlled to correspond to the California Model Standards for Adult Education, from low-beginning through high-intermediate levels. The stories themselves increase in complexity from level to level. The four Level One readers feature exactly the same story found in the video, told in simplified English and extensively illustrated with four-color photos. The same basic story is expanded upon at Level 2, only with more reliance on narrative speech. Finally, the Level 3 and 4 readers dramatically expand the video storyline using the same characters from the video but putting them in new situations.

Findley, Carter and John Rothney. Twentieth-Century World. 6th Edition. Houghton
Mifflin Company, 2006
ISBN: 0-618-52263-8
The book provides a global history that offers balanced coverage of both developed and developing societies. The text is designed to help students understand how the world has evolved in the twentieth-century by emphasizing global patterns of integration. It examines issues and events, not as unique occurrences, but in terms of their global impact. Four interrelated themes serve to illuminate significant patterns in the mass of available information: global inter-relatedness, disequilibrium among cultures in a era of accelerating change, the rise of mass society, and technology versus nature.

An introduction describes how to watch the programs and how to use the study guide. Each chapter corresponds to one of the 13 programs and includes learning objectives, links to the textbook, key terms to identify, sample test questions, and map and timeline exercises. The guide for Part 1 covers programs 1-13, plus an additional chapter on program 14 to allow instructors to divide the course at either point. Likewise the guide for Part 2 covers programs 14-26, and also repeats the program 13 chapter, again to give instructors flexibility on where to divide the course.
