AboutIn celebration of 2009's International Year of Astronomy, Emmy award winning producer and writer Kris Koenig along with the Interstellar Studios production team traveled the globe to create the 400 Years of the Telescope documentary. MPT and Celestron are proud to announce a telescope giveaway to benefit a local school or educational organization that serves students interested in astronomy. Simply complete an entry form online or download the entry form and mail it in to MPT, c/o Telescope Giveaway, 11767 Owings Mills Boulevard, Owings Mills MD 21117. The deadline to nominate your school/organization is June 12, 2009. All entries will be reviewed. The winning organization will be selected from the five nominees receiving the greatest number of entries. The telescope winner will be announced at the June 30 MPT Launch Party at the MD Science Center in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The winning organization will receive a Celestron CPC 800 GPS (XLT) and hands-on telescope training from MD Science Center staff. Estimated prize value: over $2,000. Who is eligible for this drawing? Any Maryland school (public or private) or not-for-profit educational organization that serves elementary or secondary level students. This includes scouting groups, homeschooling groups, nature clubs, museums, science or environmental groups, etc. The Fine Print: No purchase necessary. Entries must be received by 6/12/09. One entry per person. The winner will be selected from the five schools/organizations receiving the highest number of nominations by a panel of local science & education professionals assembled by MPT. The recipient will be announced at the June 30 "Two Small Pieces of Glass" Launch Party at the MD Science Center. This giveaway is part of the national outreach around the 400 Years of the Telescope documentary and the companion planetarium program "Two Small Pieces of Glass," in conjunction with IYA and funded by the National Science Foundation. Celestron is responsible for the telescope donation. MPT thanks them for their support. The winner agrees to submit a report at the end of the 2009-10 school year, indicating how the telescope was used and by how many people. The Executive Officer or Principal of the recipient will be responsible for filing this report with MPT by 6/30/10. All mailed entries must be post-marked by 6/12/09. Questions?
