First Artist on the Moon

Former NASA astronaut, painter Alan Bean joins MPT Friday night as 40th anniversary of first manned moon landing approaches

Owings Mills, MD—As the nation prepares to celebrate the 40th anniversary (July 20, 1969) of the first manned moon landing, former NASA astronaut Alan Bean joins Maryland Public Television (MPT) for State Circle, Friday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Bean was the fourth person to walk on the moon, and after 18 years as an astronaut, resigned from NASA in 1981 to pursue a full-time career as a painter. A new exhibit of his artwork—the first and only to incorporate real moon dust—is currently on display at the National Air and Space Museum.

MPT will talk to the legendary Bean about the historic NASA anniversary, his life experiences and art, which offers a rare glimpse into a world only he and 11 others have experienced.

For more information on Bean and his art, visit alanbeangallery.com. For more information on MPT, visit mpt.org. For this and other press releases, visit the MPT pressroom.
